History of the Company

NKS is a medium-sized company with almost 100 years of experience in the elevator industry, and is proprietor-run.

In 1921, August Woerner established a business for the manufacturing of cast stone, operating under the name of “Kunststeinwerke Süßen”.

Its product range encompassed everything from ballast weights (e.g. counterweights for drawing tables, cranes, overhead doors etc.) tofunerary monuments.

After just a few years, the owner of the company at that time began to display characteristic Swabian inventiveness in specialising in high-density products. The outcome of this development work was that the material Gussolith was invented and patented in 1938.

The production line was substantially modernised by the inventor’s son,
Helmut Woerner. He replaced the manual production process with a modern pressing method that was partially automated.

Ever since, the production process has involved preparing the material Gussolith in a high-performance mixer, weighing it digitally and processing it in the press line.

NKS GmbH supplies leading German and international manufacturers of elevator systems with Gussolith counterweight systems and lead weights.

Now in its third generation of ownership, NKS GmbH continues to operate to its traditional high standards of quality.
